for the latte
- 1/2 cup milk whole milk is best
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 3-4 tbsp pumpkin puree
- 2-3 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- a dash of ground ginger
- a dash of ground nutmeg
- OR 1/2-1 tsp pumpkin pie spice in place of the spices listed above.
- 1 tbsp. instant coffee + 3 tbsp hot water OR 2 shots of espresso OR 1/4 strong brewed coffee.
for the topping
- whipped cream
- ground nutmeg
In a saucepan, combine all the latte ingredients, except for the coffee.
Whisk to combine, making sure that the spices are fully incorporated into the milk and cream.
Place the pan on the stove and gently heat on low, whisking occasionally.
While the spiced milk is heating, proper your coffee, and get your mug ready.
Once the coffee is done and the milk mixture is hot, assemble your latte. Pour the coffee/espresso into your coffee mug, give the milk mixture a finally whisk, and pour it over the coffee.
Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg and enjoy your own easy homemade pumpkin spice latte!
But if you aren't a fan of maple syrup or perhaps can't find pure maple syrup. You can use white sugar, brown sugar, honey, or pretty much any other sweetener you enjoy in this latte in place of the syrup. But DO NOT use artificial maple syrup.
Go easy on the ginger! You really only need a pinch, if you add too much ginger it will be overpowering and even burn your throat!
Feel free to play around with measurements in this recipe. I usually make my lattes with only 1 tbsp of maple syrup as I don't like my coffee overly sweet. I also tend to add more pumpkin, since I want the flavor to be strong.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend preparing this latte ahead of time, or any latte for that latte. Since both the coffee and spices will begin to separate.
But if you would like to prepare it ahead of time. Simply make as directed above, then place in a jar or a cup with a cover and store in the fridge until ready to use.
