Ingredients

  • 4 large scoops of softened ice cream flavor of choice*
  • 1-2 shots espresso or 1/4 strong brewed coffee**
  • milk to thin

Instructions

  • Take your ice cream out of the freezer and allow it to soften for 10 minutes. The key to making a good creamy milkshake to is start with soft ice cream!
  • Place your ice cream in an upright blender, and add the espresso and a splash of milk.
  • lend on high speed until smooth, adding more milk if needed to reach your desired consistency. If you prefer a thicker milkshake you'll want to add only a little milk, if you like your milkshakes on the thinner side you'll want to add roughly 1/2 cup or more of milk.
  • Taste, add more coffee if needed, and blend again, just until the coffee is mixed in.
  • Pour into a tall glass(s), top with whipped cream and coffee beans(or chocolate-covered espresso beans!) if desired.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

*You can use any kind of ice cream to make these milkshakes, my top 3 choices would be Vanilla, Chocolate, and Coffee Ice cream. But things like Strawberry, Cookies and Cream, and Cookie dough Ice Cream as also great options!

**You can use a 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cold brew coffee, or instant coffee granules dissolved in hot water. The key is just to have a small amount of very strong coffee. If you have an espresso machine by all means use it! You can also likely find instant espresso powder, as well as brewed espresso at your local grocery store.

This recipe will make one large espresso milkshake or 2-3 small milkshakes.

If you are making a chocolate or ''mocha'' milkshake you'll probably want to add a little extra coffee. As the espresso doesn't come through quite as well with chocolate as it does with vanilla.

If you are really looking to have a little fun with this recipe, try making a boozy coffee milkshake, add a splash of baileys Irish cream, or your favorite cream liquor. And Enjoy!
