I’ve been making homemade hot chocolate for years now, from my own hot chocolate mix to rich and creamy French hot chocolate, to simply melting milk chocolate in a pan of milk.

Yet somehow despite this the thought of using white chocolate never crossed my mind, it wasn’t until last year that the idea of making a creamy white hot chocolate came into my head.

And so I did, and while I enjoyed my homemade white hot chocolate, I couldn’t get the container of blackberries I had sitting in the fridge out of my head. I love white chocolate, and I love blackberries, so I got to thinking, why not put them together? And create a completely unique and delicious cozy drink?

Needless to say, I did. This simple recipe is not only fun and interesting, but it also tastes amazing! The combination of white chocolate, and homemade blackberry syrup creates a one-of-a-kind white hot chocolate that is sure to get people talking!

I played around with this recipe for a long time, before I finally landed on this method, this recipe can be made in less than 5 minutes, you need only 4 ingredients. And if you’re in a pinch you can sub blackberry syrup from the grocery store in place of the homemade!

How to Make Blackberry White Hot Chocolate

Makes 1 large hot chocolate

Ingredients

  • whole milk, you can use any kind of milk you like, but I prefer to use whole milk as it has a higher fat content which results in a creamier drink!
  • heavy cream, you can substitute more milk, but the hot chocolate won’t be as creamy
  • white chocolate chips, you can use a white chocolate bar chopped into small pieces, white chocolate pieces, or even white chocolate shavings. Just be sure to use good quality chocolate!
  • homemade blackberry syrup

Directions

In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, heat the milk until small bubbles appear around the edges of the pan.

Add the white chocolate chips and whisk until the chocolate is completely melted and the milk is hot enough for your liking.

Pour the blackberry syrup into a coffee mug, followed by the hot white chocolate milk.

Stir and enjoy!

Notes

You can top this recipe with any of your favorite hot chocolate toppings, fresh whipped cream, mini marshmallows, dark chocolate shavings, etc.

If you don’t have white chocolate, you can use white chocolate syrup or white chocolate mocha sauce in place of the chocolate chips.

Sometimes I add a little vanilla extract to this recipe, I feel the vanilla flavor rounds out the the recipe nicely. I add roughly 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract when I am feeling fancy!
